For most kids, summer is a time to be anywhere other than the classroom.

But 15-year-old Parker Serret and his team are working to make sure the learning doesn't stop.

"Most kids always have a passion for learning, and we're just trying to dig it out of them and get them excited for this," said APAID President, Parker Serret.

Parker founded APAID Academy — a student-led non-profit that's offering free tutoring to local students in our community.

"We wanted to find a way where we can help the community and just have the community more connected and engaged," said Serret.

"It gives kids an opportunity to really, basically just connect with the community," said APAID Vice President, Tyler Fagan.

Not only that, this organization offers that extra help kids may not get from teachers, a feeling Parker tells 15 ABC he knows all too well.

"They honestly have 120 kids coming in and out of their class per day, and they can't focus on each one on one individually, so we're not trying to recreate the education system in a way, we're trying to aid the education system."

For tutors like Ethan Kim, this experience has opened new doors.

"I think teaching is definitely a possibility for me," he said.

"The children are so fun and exciting and how they interact with each other, how they interact with the teachers, their opinions on like the the world and how they change with the teaching is really interesting to see," he added.

"We are connecting our community through learning, which is something that's really special to me. Learning is something you can't take away from someone," said Serret.
